Gordian Strapping has supplied an OMS 06RP horizontal strapping machine to a whisky distillery.
The strapping machine applies a single polyester strap to secure six barrels of whisky to a pallet. The barrels are then stored for at least 5 years until the whiskey is ready for bottling.
Before the strapper was installed, the barrels were strapped manually using battery powered hand tools. Automating the strapping process means that labour can redeployed elsewhere in the facility and also ensures that the strapping process is repeatable.
The OMS 06RP is a proven, high performance, robust machine. It was integrated speedily and simply into the production line by Gordian’s engineers with minimum disruption. Features include rear strap alignment bars that ensure accurate, repeatable strap placement and a rack and pinion system that eliminates the costs involved with chains and poly belts.
The TR1400HD strapping head, which can apply a max. tension of 2300N (230kg), features precise, repeatable strap feeding (avoiding jams and increases up-time), and a ‘strap in place’ confirmation (a pallet cannot leave the machine without being strapped). They head is equipped with quick-change modular parts that can be swapped out within 5 minutes in the event of a fault, thereby minimizing downtime. Heat Seal technology means that the head can be quickly adjusted to suit different strap specifications, and a major service is only required every 200,000 cycles. At <70 dB the strapping machine is also extremely quiet.
