Gordian Strapping has supplied a StraPack RQ8-CRFB fully automated strapping machine to N Smith & Co. Ltd. at their 41,000 sq. ft. facility in Oldbury, West Midlands.
N. Smith is a cardboard box and packaging manufacturer offering a complete service from concept design and technical specification through graphic artwork, print, production and delivery. With over 110 years' experience in the manufacture of cardboard packaging, N Smith has earned a commanding reputation for delivering customer driven, highly engineered, quality packaging & display solutions.
N. Smith required a new, wide arch strapping machine with top press on the end of their SIMCA 3010 stitching and gluing machine. Previously N. Smith had been using a 1050 x 500mm arch stand-alone strapping machine. Packs had to be pulled through the arch of the strapping machine and positioned under the arch by the operator, compressed by hand to remove the air, and then strapped.
The new RQ-8CRFB 1650 x 500mm arch machine receives packs from the SIMCA, compresses and then straps them automatically. Photocells detect the pack size and 6 driven belts index packs to the correct position under the arch for strapping. The machine, which was installed in April 2014, runs 5mm polypropylene strap.
Having been impressed with the reliability and robustness of their two stand-alone StraPack machines, N Smith had no hesitation in choosing to install a fully automated StraPack machine. Furthermore, with 13 engineers across the UK, Gordian supplies comprehensive after sales service and support.
Gary Hogg, Works Director at N Smith commented “This new strapper is fully automated enabling us to increase our throughput. We have been impressed with the reliability of the StraPack machines.”
