Gordian Strapping has supplied an OMS IS43 Stretch Hooder to Crown Paints in Darwen.
Crown Paints, with manufacturing plants in Darwen, Lancashire and Kingston- Upon-Hull, is one of the UK’s largest and most successful paint manufacturers. Crown also has a network of over 135 Crown Decorating Centres located across the UK and Ireland.
Crown required a stretch hooder for their emulsion manufacturing plant in Darwen to ensure that their 10L emulsion paint tubs are packaged securely for transport. Initially, Crown had considered packaging the 10L tubs using a stretch wrapper. A hood applicator was chosen to stop the 10 litre buckets ‘hooking and hanging’ whilst in transport.
The OMS IS43 secures the load on the pallet using downward stretch forces through the hooding process with minimum side force to protect the tubs from compression forces. In addition, the film is locked on the pallet base using a “roping” method for added securement. Having researched the market, Crown selected the IS43 Stretch Hooding machine after testing the new method on palletised product with positive results. The operator friendliness of the machine, and the fact that all film loading and servicing is conducted at ground level were added advantages.
With 13 engineers across the UK, including 3 within 45 miles of Darwen, and over 75 years’ experience in end-of-line packaging systems, Gordian Strapping was the ideal partner to install and maintain the machine.
